Frequently Asked Questions
Why bring your puppy to training classes?
Capel Dog Training conducts the Kennel Club Good Citizens Puppy Foundation Award courses at Capel-Le-Ferne, Cheriton and Lydden which provides a means of socialising puppies and laying down a foundation for education and training so therefore avoiding future behaviour problems rather than having to correct them at a later date.
Classes are fun & have a relaxed atmosphere.
You will receive help & support throughout the course.
You can continue with your training, after the puppy course, working towards your Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards.
How old does my puppy need to be to attend classes?
As long as your puppy has received his vaccinations and has been cleared by your veterinary surgeon to mix with other dogs, which is usually a week, or so, after his second vaccination, around 3 to 4 months old, he can begin puppy classes.
What training methods will be used?
We only use positive, reward-based methods, using food & toys to motivate puppies, any negative or punitive actions will not be allowed.
What will my puppy learn at classes?
How to sit, lie down & stand
How to walk on a loose lead
How to 'stay' when commanded
How to meet and greet people and other dogs appropriately
How to give up articles when required
Come back when called
And how to accept being handled at the vets or groomers
Can my spouse/partner attend as well?
Of course, consistency within the family is important.
Can I bring my young child with me?
As long as he/she is capable of sitting quietly for the duration of the class, there is no problem.
How much are the classes?
The cost of the 6-week puppy course is £35.00 and includes a puppy information pack and certificate and rosette on completion of the course. Follow on classes are £5.00 per class payable at the beginning of the month as a monthly fee.
